L’Orfeo generally presents a common thread in its programmes, uncovering connections between the works or the composers. Sometimes the familiar is combined with new discoveries as in the case with the (hardly known) British composer Thomas Linley whose Ouverture preceded Mozart’s first symphony in one programme. The eight-year-old Mozart composed this symphony during his first trip to England. But also teachers and their students are portrayed as in the case with Mozart and his Belgian-French contemporary Grétry. Another fascinating combination was works composed in Hamburg for the middle class and the court presented here face to face. And finally also frogs, crows and village musicians compete for the limelight in L’Orfeo’s concerts.
Some of these concerts were documented as CD’s, others were recorded by broadcasting stations subject to public law and some few we proudly present here on our website. A warm thank-you to SWR, Deutschlandradio and BR Klassik.
Have fun!
