Joseph Haydn’s „Turkish“ opera was produced at the Donaufestwochen in 2019 and the performances took place both in the courtyard of the castle and, due to bad weather, in the knight’s hall. I was lucky to attend five performances, each time equipped with my drawing pad and a paintbrush. It was exciting, every performance unveiled new facets. I tried to merely sketch the facial expressions and gestures of the singers in order to touch up later if necessary. (Christa Moritz)
